TEA TIDBITS

Polishing silver.

Do you have some silver? We have a few pieces but ours didn't get used much until we started having tea! Now we are collecting some more pieces and finding some great buys at yard sales and thrift stores. However, they do need to be sparkling and shiny when we use them, SO that means using some old-fashioned elbow grease. Getting your silver to shine still requires rubbing! Properly cleaned and polished, silver will keep its shine longer. For routine cleaning and polishing, use a nonabrasive silver cleaner, which will not damage the finish. Rub it into the piece with a soft rag to remove all traces of dirt and tarnish. Clean near a sink so you can rinse the pieces as you work. To keep silver in good condition, there are a few things to remember: Salt is corrosive and can leave permanent marks. Don’t mix silver and steel; this could cause a chemical reaction. The wisest thing you can do for your silver: Use it and wash it regularly.
